Punjab Police detained Shehnaz Singh, also known as Shawn Bhinder, an international narcotics trafficker sought by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), an official reported on Monday. Singh is an important figure in an international drug trafficking operation.
Singh was apprehended in Tarn Taran, Punjab, during a coordinated operation, as stated by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav in a post on X.
“In a major breakthrough, @TarnTaranPolice arrests Big Fish Shehnaz Singh @ Shawn Bhinder, a transnational drug lord wanted by the #FBI-#USA. He was a key player in a global narcotics syndicate, smuggling cocaine from #Colombia into the #USA and #Canada,” Yadav posted on X.
Singh, known by the name Shawn Bhinder, is reportedly a significant figure in a global drug trafficking organization that transported substantial amounts of cocaine from Colombia to the United States and Canada.
He also mentioned that this operation came after the capture of four of his accomplices in the US on February 26. The individuals were recognized as Amritpal ‘Amrit Bal’ Singh, Amritpal ‘Cheema’ Singh, Takdir Singh also known as Romy, Sarbsit Singh referred to as Sabi, and Fernando ‘Franco’ Valladares. In that operation, authorities confiscated 391 kg of methamphetamine, 109 kg of cocaine, and four guns from the suspects’ residences and automobiles.
Shehnaz Singh is said to be a drug trafficker operating across nations. Sought by the FBI, he was located and apprehended in Tarn Taran, Punjab, after an operation. The pursuit to apprehend Singh began after several of his associates were detained in the United States. Following the enforcement action in the US, Singh escaped to India, where he successfully avoided capture until the Punjab Police located him.
The advancement occurs during the Punjab government’s active ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ (battle against drugs) initiative, initiated on February 25. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann recently led a meeting with senior officials as part of the state’s revitalized effort for its anti-drug campaign, establishing a three-month deadline to achieve a drug-free state.
