For many years, Goa was regarded as India’s preferred seaside location. Adorned with unspoiled beaches and infinite charm, Goa attracted visitors from all over the nation. Nevertheless, after the pandemic, there has been a noticeable change in the paradigm. The change was made even more evident when Goa was completely deserted during New Year’s – a period when it experiences the highest visitor numbers.

But what is the reason for this abrupt change? Reasons this coastal paradise is no longer a favorite for everyone. There are several reasons.

Superior Choices!

With the rise of social media, individuals have realized the various alternatives – which are even more appealing than Goa. Gokarna has indeed become the ideal alternative to Goa. Known for its stunning scenery and lively culture, this seaside town provides a variety of experiences. Whether you’re a fan of the beach, a passionate hiker, or on a quest for spirituality, Gokarna offers something for all. Other alternatives consist of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Puducherry.

Cab Situation from a Nightmare

Goa is infamous for its taxi scenario. Public transport alternatives are very limited, and local taxi services have a stronghold on the market. It is so unfortunate that overall, hailing a cab in Goa can frequently be pricier than an airfare to arrive. It’s quite common to be billed for a round-trip fare, even if you’re traveling in just one direction. In a region that draws visitors nationwide, the lack of a dependable public transit system or inexpensive taxis is a significant disadvantage.

The Division between North and South

North Goa is favored by Indians, whereas South Goa is mainly chosen by foreigners. This is why numerous residents in South Goa do not offer Indian tourists the same hospitality that they provide to foreigners.

Tax Mafia

Many people also blame the ‘Goa taxi mafia’ for the decline in tourism. According to reports, many people have revealed how they had been threatened and abused by cab drivers for offering rides to foreigners.

While Goa is no more a tourist hotspot, a good news is that there are many other coastal places in India that are worth exploring.
