The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) formally sent a Letter of Intent to the Future Host Commission, International Olympic Committee (IOC) on October 1 expressing India’s interest in hosting the Olympics and Paralympics Games in 2036, according to sources who spoke to IANS. This is a major step towards India’s goal of becoming a sports powerhouse. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in India in 2036 has taken a significant step forward,” according to a source. “This monumental opportunity could bring substantial benefits, fostering economic growth, social progress, and youth empowerment across the country,” according to the source.

India is interested in hosting the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated on several occasions. PM Modi requested the athletes from the Paris Olympics to contribute to the planning of hosting the quadrennial spectacle in 2036 during an Independence Day ceremony at his home in New Delhi.

“India is preparing to host the 2036 Olympics. In this regard, the input from athletes who have played in previous Olympics is very important. You all must have observed and experienced many things. We want to document this and share it with the government so that we don’t miss out on any small details in the preparation for 2036,” PM Modi had said.

PM Modi stated that 140 crore Indians are dedicated to hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, reaffirming India’s enthusiasm in doing so at the 141st IOC Session in Mumbai last year.

There was a “strong case” for India to host the Olympic Games, according to IOC President Thomas Bach, who had also backed India’s position.

Ten nations have expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, including India. The IOC began talks with several nations, including India, in November 2022, and they have expressed interest.

Ten nations, including Mexico (Mexico City, Guadalajara-Monterrey-Tijuana), Indonesia (Nusantara), Turkey (Istanbul), India (Ahmedabad), Poland (Warsaw, Krakow), Egypt (New Administrative Capital), and South Korea (Seoul-Incheon), have expressed preliminary interest in hosting the 2036 Games.
