With the 67th Annual Grammy Awards nearing, there is increasing worry about the effects of the destructive wildfires raging through Los Angeles. With the event scheduled for Sunday, February 2, at Crypto.com Arena in downtown L.A., many are questioning if the current crisis might cause a postponement or alteration of arrangements for music’s biggest evening.

Multiple sources informed The Hollywood Reporter that conversations and arguments have been underway regarding the possible postponement of the music award show or transitioning the broadcast into a fundraiser. A high-ranking television executive disclosed that the Grammys will likely be delayed due to the devastating wildfires sweeping through the Los Angeles region.

The ongoing fire has taken lives and destroyed property. Nonetheless, another source revealed that the circumstances in the days ahead will determine if the event will proceed as planned or be delayed. Harvey Mason Jr., the head of the Recording Academy, is said to be considering several potential situations.

Alongside the ambiguity related to the Grammy Awards, preparations are underway for a charity concert to support individuals impacted by the wildfires. Set for January 30 at the Intuit Dome, the event will feature MusiCares, the Grammy Foundation that supports music professionals in need. Presented by Live Nation, the Azoff family, and AEG Presents, the concert will include a selection of artists and broadcasting partners yet to be announced.

Nevertheless, the difficulties of organizing a major event amidst a natural disaster extend beyond mere logistics. Numerous individuals in the music sector are experiencing personal losses, including musicians who have lost their instruments, as well as label personnel and publicists working with top artists such as Billie Eilish and The Weeknd.

It will not be the first time the Grammys will be delayed or cancelled. In recent years, the show was delayed by the Recording Academy. The annual event was first shifted from January to March because of COVID-19 in 2021. It saw a similar shift in 2022 when it was moved from January to April because of the increase in the virus’ Omicron Variant. The same year, the show’s venue also moved to Las Vegas which was a first.
