News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 16th August 2025

The third ‘Belt and Road’ International Youth Boxing Gala U17-U19-U23 international training camp and tournament, which is set to take place in Urumqi, Xinjiang province, China, from August 15 to 30, will feature a 59-member Indian presence.

Twenty boys and twenty girls made up the team, which had already arrived in China with the help of twelve coaches, six support personnel, a referee, and a judge. The event, which is organized by the Chinese Boxing Federation and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Government, starts with a training camp in Urumqi from August 17 to August 25. The tournament phase then takes place in Urumqi and Yili from August 26 to 29.

At this edition, India is only represented by U-17 boys and girls.

Gold and silver medallists in the Asian Youth Games weight categories and gold medallists in the Non-Asian Youth Games weight categories were among the boxers chosen from the sixth U-17 junior boys and girls National Boxing Championships 2025.

Boxers will fight in a variety of divisions. There will be 13 weight categories for U17 boys and girls to compete in: 46 kg, 48 kg, 50 kg, 52 kg, 54 kg, 57 kg, 60 kg, 66 kg, 70 kg, 75 kg, 80 kg, and 80 kg.

It is anticipated that India’s young boxers will acquire important exposure and experience competing against formidable international opponents by taking part in this international training camp and tournament.

Indian juvenile boxers have performed admirably at international tournaments in recent months. This was especially true at the Asian U15 and U17 Championships earlier this year, where the team won 43 medals and placed second overall.
