On Monday, the United States granted a six-month waiver from its sanctions for dealings with governing bodies in Syria to help facilitate humanitarian aid delivery and permit certain energy transactions. British foreign secretary David Lammy participated in the Riyadh discussions alongside ministers from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey, in addition to the U.N. special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen.

The UK foreign office stated that conversations would center on aiding the interim Syrian authorities, “including ways to ensure the Assad regime is held responsible for the war crimes committed against the Syrian population.” On Sunday, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy urged allies to fulfill all commitments to provide Ukraine with arms, particularly to defend against Russian aerial assaults. Zelenskiy stated that in the week prior, Russian troops had conducted hundreds of assaults on Ukraine, deploying almost 700 aerial bombs and more than 600 attack drones.

Ukrainian air defenses shot down 60 of the 94 drones that Russia launched overnight, according to a statement from the air force on Sunday. It was reported that 34 drones were “lost,” referring to Ukraine’s electronic warfare tactics to redirect Russian drones. “Each week, the Russian conflict persists solely because the Russian forces maintain their capacity to intimidate Ukraine and leverage their aerial dominance,” Zelenskiy stated on the Telegram messaging platform.

He urged Ukraine’s allies to honor the agreements that have already been established.

“The choices taken at the NATO summit in Washington, along with those agreed upon during the Ramstein meetings concerning air defences for Ukraine, have yet to be completely executed,” stated Zelenskiy. This week, Ukraine’s leader mentioned that he had talked with partners and the United States about the potential of allowing Ukraine to produce air defence systems and missiles.
