BJP And Cong Account For More Than 90% Of Donations To 7 National Parties In 2021–2022

According to data from the Election Commission (EC), at least seven national parties contributed more than 20,000 rupees to them in the fiscal year 2021–2022, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress accounting for more than 90% of the total.
The BJP, the Indian National Congress (INC/Congress), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M), the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC/TMC), and the National People’s Party are the eight national parties in India. All seven parties’ contribution information has been updated for 2021–2022, with the exception of the CPI.
The BSP was on the other end of the spectrum with zero donations, while the BJP received the largest donation of Rs 614.52 crore. According to the analysis, the BJP received nearly four times as much money as the other six parties combined.
The BSP claimed in its filing to the Election Commission that it received zero contributions worth more than Rs 20,000 between 2020 and 21. The BSP has advocated for this position for more than 15 years. It asserts that it solely receives funding from individuals with modest incomes.
The BJP is in first place in terms of donations received. 4,957 gifts totaling more than Rs 614.52 crore were made. The second organization on the list, The Congress, reported receiving Rs 95.45 crore from 1,257 donations. When these two parties are combined, they account for more than 90% of the total contributions reported by the seven national parties.
In terms of average donation per donor, NCP leads the list.
The NCP received Rs 57.90 crore in 245 gifts, or Rs 23.63 lakh on average per donor, the biggest amount among the parties.
The BJP received an average of Rs 12.39 lakh per donor, compared to Rs 7.59 lakh for the Congress. According to the EC data, it was Rs 6.14 lakh for the TMC, Rs 2.08 lakh for the NPP, and Rs 1.87 lakh for the CPI(M).
The biggest increase in donations from 2020–21 was likewise reported by the NCP. The data also reveals that the contributions received by the BJP, Congress, NCP, and AITC have increased while those of the NPP and CPM have fallen when compared to the donations received by these national parties in the previous financial year (2020-21).
The contribution to Sharad Pawar’s NCP increased the most, more than doubling from Rs 26.26 crore in 2020–21 to Rs 57.90 crore in 2021–22.
Every year, political parties are required to report to the Election Commission any donations that exceed Rs 20,000.
