Bengal Will Shortly Introduce The CAA

Nisith Pramanik, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, asserted that West Bengal would soon see the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Pramanik said that Hindus were expelled from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan during a public meeting on 27 November in Mathabhanga, Cooch Behar district. CAA was appointed to grant citizenship to such individuals. Citizenship is not taken away by the law. The nation will soon apply this law. This will also be put into practice in West Bengal.

The opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari recently stated that the law would be implemented in the state, prompting the union minister’s comments. Some believe that this is an attempt to keep the issue alive before the state’s next panchayat elections.

Adhikari stated that CAA is a hotly contested topic on November 26 while speaking to a crowd at Thakurnagar in the North 24 Parganas area.

The Trinamool Congress has consistently opposed the CAA and has held protest marches in opposition on numerous occasions. The state’s chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, has insisted that her administration will not permit the law to be put into effect in the region and that anyone who entered the country as a refugee before 1971 is already a citizen.
