Republicans Target Joe Biden As The US Recovers A Chinese Surveillance Balloon
An alleged Chinese surveillance balloon that was shot down off the coast of South Carolina is being sought after by the United States, according to the Pentagon.
Here are the latest developments in this story:
Republican lawmakers have accused China of using the spy balloon to monitor secret US military locations and have charged that the Biden administration gave Beijing a chance by not shooting the balloon down.
Over the Atlantic Ocean, a military jet fired a missile at the balloon to bring it down.
Following the discovery of the surveillance balloon, the top American diplomat postponed a trip to Beijing.
After the balloon crashed into the lake, China’s defense ministry stated that it reserves the right to take necessary actions to cope with such scenarios.
The balloon, according to US defense and military authorities, entered the US air defense zone on January 28. It then traveled primarily over land across Alaska until entering Canadian airspace on February 6.
On January 31, when Joe Biden was originally informed about the citing, it then crossed back into US jurisdiction over Idaho.
Officials have previously stated that lowering the balloon down over land from a height of 60,000 feet would put those on the ground at unnecessary risk.
The balloon was punctured by a missile launched from an F-22 fighter jet as it was flying close to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Apparently, the debris fell into water that was 47 feet deep.
They emphasized that recovery activities would be finished quickly rather than over several weeks.
