In a recent address to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu highlighted a significant issue affecting the state a decade after its bifurcation in 2014— the absence of a functioning capital city. Speaking during a discussion on the motion of thanks for the Governor’s speech, Naidu criticized the current administration under former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for allegedly causing substantial harm to the state through mismanagement and policy reversals.
Naidu expressed his discontent with the way Reddy’s administration has handled crucial projects and governance issues. He pointed out that not only was the development of Amaravati, the planned capital city, stalled, but the Polavaram irrigation project also suffered due to negligence. Naidu accused the previous government of deliberately changing contractors to delay the progress of these vital infrastructure projects.
In his speech, Naidu acknowledged the challenges faced but also underscored the potential for Andhra Pradesh to emerge as a leading state with collective support from all ministers, legislators, and the populace. He lauded the Central government’s recent backing of the Polavaram and Amaravati projects in the Union Budget, as announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Naidu commended this support, noting that the irrigation system in Andhra Pradesh had deteriorated due to inadequate maintenance and management in recent years.
Naidu also criticized the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) administration for what he described as state-sponsored revenge politics, which he claimed had led to a decline in investments and a rise in crime rates over the past five years. He accused Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the leader of YSRCP, of avoiding assembly sessions and staging protests in Delhi to escape scrutiny, suggesting that Reddy’s actions were driven by fear of facing legislative accountability.
This statement reflects Naidu’s broader criticism of the previous administration’s governance and its impact on Andhra Pradesh’s development. He stressed the need for effective leadership and collaboration to overcome the challenges faced by the state and ensure its progress.
Naidu’s remarks underline the ongoing political tensions in Andhra Pradesh and the critical issues related to the state’s development and governance. His address to the Assembly sheds light on the challenges of transitioning from the bifurcation period and highlights the political and administrative hurdles that have affected the state’s trajectory.
