Virat Kohli, India’s reliable Men’s team batter, recently surpassed iconic Sachin Tendulkar to break the record of scoring 27,000 international runs in least number of innings on September 30, Monday, during the second test match against Bangladesh. He broke the record previously set by ‘Master Blaster’ on a sunny day after two consecutive rainy days at Kanpur.
Kohli took only 594 innings to reach the feat, 29 less than Tendulkar, who reached the 27,000 runs milestone in 623 innings. Kumar Sangakara, Sri Lanka’s legendary wicketkeeper-batter reached the same height in 648 innings. And for Australia’s most-decorated captain Ricky Ponting, it took 650 innings.
The Indian number 18’s innings looked to start off well with his effortless drives and stroke play, looking like he was ought to remain at the crease for a long time.
However, his bid to play across the line led to him returning to pavilion as Shakib Al Hasan’s ball kept low and sneaked between the gap between his bat and pad. His innings came down to 47 in 35 balls.
With this amazing height, Kohli is now the owner of the fastest 27,000 international runs scored by a player in the history of cricket record as he boasts a whopping 27,012 runs.
Starting the fourth day, India showed conviction and urgency as the earlier two days of play were washed out by rain. They were quick to bowl out Bangladesh on 233. Indian batters showed no mercy to the Bangladeshi bowlers as they kept hitting boundaries.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, India’s latest test team addition, broke the record of scoring the fastest test half-century by an Indian, previously held by Virender Sehwag. Records continued to break as Ravindra Jadeja reached the 300 test wicket feat on the same day as the past two records.
On the same day, while India’s opening partners Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal were batting, they broke the record of the highest scoring rate in a test partnership with a minimum of runs as they scored 55 runs in 3.5 overs with a run rate of 14.34, breaking the previous record of Ben Stokes and Ben Duckett who had scored 87 runs in 44 balls against West Indies with a run rate of 11.86.
