News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 3rd November 2024

Many people experience a surge of nostalgia for their hometown as the colorful Diwali holiday draws to a close, where there is laughing, the delicious smell of food, and the cozy glow of lights everywhere. The event takes on a different meaning for individuals who are celebrating away from home, and is frequently laced with memories of joyfully popping crackers with loved ones.

It can be both bittersweet and nostalgic to celebrate Diwali away from home. Many people mourn the authentic festival atmosphere that they experienced in the warmth of their families, even though some may find comfort in local celebrations. However, creative celebrations are frequently the result of the desire to replicate those treasured memories. Recently, a humorous example of this caught the attention of millions of people on social media.

An Instagram video purportedly from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Dhanbad shows a bunch of engineering students enjoying Diwali in what can only be called a “Elon Musk” fashion. The pupils cover a firework with a plastic trashcan after lighting it. The dustbin sits menacingly, while viewers wait in suspense. Then, with a loud “boom,” the trashcan soars to the top of the four-story boys’ hostel, and the youngsters below burst into cheers of joy.

With over six million likes and an incredible 103 million views, the video, which was posted by the Instagram account @cis_tales, has gone viral.

The comment section exploded with reactions, revealing a mix of amusement and disbelief. One user quipped, “Who needs a rocket when you have IIT students?” Another added, “I just hope they don’t take this to NASA!” A third comment read, “Only IITians would think of Diwali as an opportunity for a science experiment.” Others chimed in with cautionary notes, stating, “That’s one way to put safety regulations to the test!”

Several viewers expressed their own nostalgia, saying, “This reminds me of the Diwali parties we used to have,” while another chimed in with a laugh, “I can already picture the principal’s reaction!”
