India have made notable changes to their playing eleven for the fifth and final T20 International against New Zealand as both teams prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup. In a match that doubles as a crucial tune-up before the global event, India’s team management has opted to strengthen their side with the inclusion of Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy, signalling a shift back towards experience and balance.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to bat first on what is expected to be a batting-friendly track at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. With dew likely to play a role later in the evening, the decision to bat reflects India’s intent to test their bowling resources under challenging conditions ahead of the World Cup. Sanju Samson retains his place in the side despite recent struggles, offering him a chance to produce a big performance in front of a passionate home crowd.

Kishan’s return bolsters India’s batting depth after missing the previous encounter due to a niggle, while Axar Patel’s comeback strengthens the all-round options. Varun Chakravarthy also returns to add variety to the spin attack. In contrast, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana and Ravi Bishnoi have been left out of the XI.

New Zealand, too, have made changes, bringing in players such as Finn Allen, Bevon Jacobs, Kyle Jamieson and Lockie Ferguson, as they look to end the tour on a high. The match holds significance for both sides as they fine-tune combinations and strategies with the T20 World Cup just days away, making this finale more than just another fixture in the bilateral series.
