₹975 Crore Boost to Indigenous Defence: MoD Signs TRAWL Deal to Strengthen Army Capabilities
News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/20th April 2026

The Ministry of Defence India has signed contracts worth approximately ₹975 crore for the procurement of TRAWL Assemblies for T-72 and T-90 tanks, significantly enhancing the Indian Army’s minefield breaching capabilities. The agreements were inked on April 21, 2026, in New Delhi in the presence of Rajesh Kumar Singh.
The contracts have been awarded to Bharat Earth Movers Limited and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics India Private Limited. The TRAWL system, developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation, is a critical equipment designed to clear minefields and create safe lanes for military vehicles, even in areas with advanced anti-tank mines equipped with proximity magnetic fuses.
This procurement falls under the “Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)” category, underscoring the government’s push for self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The project is expected to not only modernise defence infrastructure but also boost domestic manufacturing and generate employment, particularly by supporting the MSME sector through component production.
The move is set to significantly enhance the operational effectiveness of the Indian Army in combat scenarios.
