Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged the United States to pursue meaningful negotiations instead of military confrontation while addressing the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi. Speaking amid escalating tensions in West Asia, Araghchi stated that there is “no military solution” to the ongoing crisis and stressed that diplomacy remains the only path toward lasting peace and regional stability.
The remarks came during the two-day BRICS summit hosted under India’s 2026 chairmanship of the bloc. The meeting brought together foreign ministers and representatives from BRICS member nations, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and newly added members such as Iran, the UAE, Egypt and Ethiopia. Discussions at the summit were heavily focused on the growing conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States, along with concerns over rising crude oil prices and disruptions to global trade routes.
During his address, Araghchi strongly criticised US foreign policy and accused Washington of relying on pressure and coercion against sovereign nations. He remarked that “US bullying is not unfamiliar to anyone here” and warned that continued military actions would only deepen instability in the region. According to the Iranian minister, the current conflict has already begun affecting global energy markets, maritime security and economic stability.
Araghchi also said that regional tensions are a “lose-lose proposition” for all sides involved and called on world powers to prevent further escalation. He argued that military pressure would not weaken Iran and claimed that the country becomes “stronger and more united” during periods of external confrontation.
The Iranian minister reportedly urged BRICS nations to adopt a stronger collective position regarding the conflict and condemn actions taken against Iran. However, reports suggested that divisions among member countries prevented the bloc from reaching a unified statement on the issue.
During his visit to New Delhi, Araghchi also held discussions with Indian leaders, including External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. Talks focused on regional security, energy cooperation and the impact of the West Asia crisis on global markets. India has continued to advocate dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts while emphasizing the importance of stability, secure trade routes and uninterrupted energy supplies amid increasing geopolitical uncertainty.
