Following a visit by two US envoys that resulted in no real progress toward ending the more than four-year conflict, Russia launched an attack on Kyiv after a three-day halt in attacks on the Russian and Ukrainian capitals ended.
The Ukrainian air force reported on Tuesday that it had intercepted two Russian ballistic missiles, 31 of 32 cruise missiles, and 142 drones. The number of ballistic missiles employed in the attack was not disclosed. According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the Russian airstrikes on Ukraine’s capital resulted in at least two fatalities and ten injuries.
He stated that the areas of Darnytskyi, Holosiivskyi, Podilskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Solomianskyi in the city sustained damage as a result of the strikes. According to Ukraine’s emergency services, drones struck buildings downtown Kyiv as well as in the outlying districts of Boryspil and Fastiv.
Russia was chastised by Ukraine for attacking so soon after US President Donald Trump’s envoys, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, visited the capitals of both nations. “The moment the US president’s peace envoys left, [President Vladimir] Putin launched another massive, horrific attack against Kyiv,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on social media, adding: “His ballistic missiles speak louder than his words on diplomacy.”
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on social media that “President Vladimir Putin launched another massive, horrific attack against Kyiv the moment the US president’s peace envoys left,” adding that “his ballistic missiles speak louder than his words on diplomacy.” According to Yegor Kovalchuk, the acting governor of the Bryansk region, a separate Ukrainian raid on the Russian town of Starodub in the region’s border area resulted in at least one fatality.
Sergei Aksyonov, the regional governor nominated by Moscow, reported that a Ukrainian offensive on the Crimean Peninsula resulted in at least two fatalities and one injury.
According to local officials, Ukrainian drone assaults killed at least two more persons, one in the Kursk region of Russia and the other in the Bryansk region. While Washington sent envoys to Moscow and Kyiv, Russia and Ukraine promised to stop attacks on each other’s capitals for three days, but violence persisted elsewhere.
Attacks stopped when Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared a partial ceasefire while US envoys were in Moscow and Kyiv over the weekend. The three-day halt Putin imposed on his military ended on Monday nite local time, according to Russia’s state news agency TASS.
