Police deny inactivity in the Gurugram biker case, saying, “The accused will be identified and held.”

On Monday, the Gurugram Police announced that it has taken suo motu cognisance of a road rage incident in which a lady biker was struck by a car and the vehicle dragged on the road for several meters. The event had caused uproar online.

Although they assured that a formal complaint had been filed in relation to the incident, the police stated that they had not received a written complaint from the victim by Monday afternoon. Later, the motorcyclist declared on her Instagram Story that she will submit a formal complaint by Monday night.

“Gurugram Police has taken suo motu cognizance of the viral video and registered FIR in the matter. The accused will be identified and apprehended at the earliest, and strictest legal action will be taken,” the Gurugram Police said in a post on X.

A social media user claimed to have recognised the accused and said that his “reach extends to a very high level,” which prompted the post. “This is probably why the police haven’t been able to do anything so far,” the user added.

The incident was made public after a video captured by a camera installed on the lady rider’s two-wheeler went viral. The victim posted the video and gave a voiceover account of her experience. The incident happened on Sunday morning while she was riding her Aprilia RS 457 sports bike on Golf Course Road with a group of bikers, according to the female rider, Sia. She claimed that after a car started to follow them, the four-wheeler’s occupants came up to her and began acting inappropriately.

“He had started chasing on the Golf Course Road. I asked him to drive while maintaining distance. He kept making hand gestures asking me to stop my bike,” the woman said. She continued by saying that a buddy who was riding behind her tried to protect her and stop the automobile from coming next to her as she continued to try to move forward so that it could not obstruct her motorbike. Sia fell from the automobile, which skidded for a few meters, when it veered and struck her motorcycle from the side.

Sia praised people for their “support” after her video went viral on social media, adding that she had witnessed numerous people making “efforts” to identify the accused. Manish, the car owner, acknowledged his vehicle was involved in a road rage incident but denied any involvement, stating he had lent it to a friend, Kalyan Singh, two days prior.

Employed by the Army and stationed in Assam, Manish discovered the accident that morning. He attempted to contact Singh, who did not answer, and sent family members to Singh’s residence, noting Singh was from Palwal district in Haryana.
