Pranati Nayak of Bengal, the only gymnast from India competing in the Asian Games, and her coach are dealing with trauma.

After being initially given the same room on a cruise ship in Nagoya on Thursday nite, Pranati Nayak, the only gymnast from India competing in the Asian Games, and her male coach, Ashok Mishra, had a number of accommodations problems. Another issue arose when Mishra requested a different room: officials were unable to locate his name in their files due to a missing letter.

“The missing letter in my name was a separate issue. From the beginning, we had been allotted the same room. It did not happen only to us; several others faced similar problems. The accommodation had been arranged without properly separating men and women,” Mishra told**.** “When I boarded the cruise ship, there was also an error in my name, and they could not find it in their records,” he said.

“They did not differentiate between men and women while arranging the accommodation and put everyone together. They told us it would be sorted out on the cruise ship. It was difficult for us because it was way past midnight when they finally resolved the problem. Losing sleep is not good before training, but it’s fine now, and that’s what matters,” Mishra added.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) stepped in and set up separate rooms, which cleared up the uncertainty. According to Mishra, Pranati’s preparation for the Games was unaffected by the incident.

“Another coach was also with me. The issue has now been resolved, and we completed our first training session today without any problem,” he said. Mishra credited the IOA with addressing the accommodation problems faced by members of the Indian contingent.

“The IOA did a great job in resolving the problems. There are many contingents, and there may have been a shortage of accommodation. In any case, the matter has been resolved. I am happy and have no problem now,” he said.

“Pranati has been accommodated with a table tennis player, while I am sharing a room with another coach. It is no longer an issue.” Pranati will compete in the women’s vault and all-around events at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in 2026. She is from Pingla village in the Paschim Medinipur region of West Bengal.
