New Delhi, October 1, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation on September 30, reviewing bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, energy and critical technologies. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and agreed to maintain close engagement.
The conversation comes amid ongoing negotiations for an India-US trade agreement and concerns in New Delhi over US measures linked to India’s purchases of Russian oil. Trade Minister Piyush Goyal is currently in the US for discussions on an interim trade arrangement.
