NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹586 crore contract with Accurate Industrial Controls Private Limited for the procurement of indigenously developed Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for the Indian Army’s T-72 and T-90 tanks.

The contract was signed in New Delhi on September 21 in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.APUs provide an alternative source of electrical power for critical tank systems, including the fire control system, firing circuit, gun stabilisation system and other ancillary equipment. Their induction is expected to strengthen the operational readiness, reliability and sustainability of the Army’s mechanised formations.

The procurement also marks a step towards greater indigenisation of critical armoured-platform subsystems. The project has been developed under the Make-II category, reflecting an industry-led research and development approach aimed at converting indigenous technology into production and eventual induction. The Ministry said the contract supports the government’s Aatmanirbharta in Defence initiative and the broader vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
