News Mania Desk/ 26th October 2026

The India-Armenia relationship is perhaps the clearest example of how Indian defence exports are acquiring geopolitical significance.

News Mania Desk – Armenia has sought to diversify its defence procurement, while India has been expanding its indigenous defence industry. Indian systems supplied to Armenia include Swathi weapon-locating radars, artillery systems, drones and counter-drone capabilities, Pinaka rocket systems and Akash air-defence systems. The Indian Council of World Affairs describes Armenia as having become one of India’s most important defence partners in recent years.

The relationship has moved beyond simple buyer-seller transactions. In January 2026, India flagged off the first tranche of Guided Pinaka rockets for Armenia, demonstrating the increasing sophistication of India’s defence exports. In August 2026, India and Armenia further expanded cooperation into joint collaboration, innovation, research and development, while also discussing military training and technical cooperation. For India, the significance goes beyond export revenue. Armenia provides an important example of Indian-made defence technology entering a competitive international market, while India gains experience in supporting foreign customers, training, maintenance and long-term defence partnerships.
