Yogi Adityanath Claims Over One Crore Hindu Voters Missing From Uttar Pradesh Electoral Rolls

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has claimed that more than one crore Hindu voters are missing from the state’s electoral rolls, raising concerns over voter registration ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. He has urged Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and elected representatives to take immediate steps to ensure that eligible voters are included in the electoral lists.

Addressing a meeting of the BJP’s state working committee, Adityanath highlighted what he described as a significant gap between the number of people registered in different government records and those appearing on the Assembly electoral rolls. He reportedly said that around 66 lakh people whose names featured in panchayat electoral rolls were missing from the Assembly voter lists.

The chief minister also pointed to discrepancies involving beneficiaries of government welfare programmes. According to his claims, approximately 55 lakh beneficiaries of government welfare schemes were not included in the electoral rolls. He further stated that nearly 4.5 lakh young people aged between 18 and 19 were missing from the lists, despite being eligible or approaching eligibility for voting.

Adityanath called on party workers to treat the issue as a priority and conduct detailed checks of voter lists across polling booths. He asked BJP representatives to coordinate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and assist eligible residents in completing the registration process. MPs, MLAs and other party office-bearers were also asked to take responsibility for monitoring voter enrolment in their respective areas.

He further argued that Uttar Pradesh should have more than 16 crore voters based on its population, whereas the existing electoral rolls contained approximately 13 crore names. He expressed concern that the alleged omissions could affect the BJP’s position in 28 urban local body constituencies. Adityanath also questioned the limited increase in voter registrations during the previous revision exercise, saying only around four lakh new voters had been added.

The chief minister’s remarks come amid the ongoing debate surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which has resulted in substantial changes to the state’s voter database. The exercise has involved the removal of names considered ineligible, alongside the addition of new voters following verification.

According to figures released by the Election Commission of India (ECI), more than 2.04 crore names were removed from Uttar Pradesh’s electoral rolls following the revision exercise. Meanwhile, over 84 lakh new voters were added, taking the state’s final electorate to approximately 13.39 crore. Adityanath’s claims have brought renewed attention to the process of voter registration and the need to ensure that eligible citizens are not excluded from electoral lists. The BJP leadership has been asked to monitor the revision exercise closely and assist people in completing the necessary formalities.
