Congress Has Termed Smriti Irani’s Remarks About Rahul Gandhi “False Statement.”
After accusing Rahul Gandhi of disregarding Swami Vivekananda when starting his party’s “Bharat Jodo Yatra” from Kanyakumari last week, the Congress today sought to fact-check Union Minister Smriti Irani.
Videos showing Smriti Irani mocking Rahul Gandhi and the Congressman paying respects in front of a statue of Vivekananda side by side have gone popular on social media. The BJP leader, who serves as the Union minister for Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs, was singled out by several Congress leaders who circulated the video.
What a foolish thing to do. God bless foolish individuals, tweeted Congress spokesman Pawan Khera.
Jairam Ramesh, a leader in the Congress and a member of the Rajya Sabha, responded angrily to Ms. Irani’s remarks by saying that the BJP believes in disseminating lies. If Ms. Irani needs a new pair of glasses to help her see things more clearly, Congress can always give her one.
In the video, Ms. Irani asks that the Congress party at the very least refrain from ignoring Swami Vivekananda if they are starting on a “yatra” from Kanyakumari to reconcile India. But it appears that Rahul Gandhi would find such a tribute to Vivekananda offensive.
The Congress politician is seen in the video clip circumambulating Vivekananda’s statue as a sign of respect while standing in front of it with her hands folded.
