The Opening Of Meghalaya’s First Five-Star Hotel
Vivanta Meghalaya, Shillong, the state’s first five-star hotel, opened its doors in the state’s capital city on October 14.
The Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) owns the site, which has been leased to the Indian Hotel Company Limited for a 33-year tenure under a PPP arrangement (IHCL).
Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister who officially opened the hotel, stated that construction on it had been ongoing since 1986 and could only have been finished with the current administration’s strong encouragement.
He praised and thanked all the project’s participants for finishing it despite the setbacks brought on by COVID.
The hotel contains 101 rooms and other amenities such as a specialty restaurant, coffee shops, bar, retail shops, and a convention hall with a built-up area of roughly 8,800 sq. m.
The Vivanta Meghalaya, Shillong, and the planned hotel Courtyard by Marriott, according to the Chief Minister, will significantly increase high-end tourism in the State.
In the future, this approach will be repeated in order to make Meghalaya the top ecotourism destination. The hotel will soon be accepting guests after they turned it over to IHCL.
According to Sangma, the government is constructing the tourism industry using a hub-and-spoke model, with Sohra, Jowai, Shillong, Umiam, and Tura serving as the hubs and neighboring rural tourist attractions serving as the spokes.
The Government has undertaken a variety of efforts to improve the State’s housing infrastructure in accordance with this policy.
These projects include the development of sizable resorts and tourism-related infrastructure in Sakaladuma, West Garo Hills, Shnongpdeng, East Khasi Hills, Sohra, Ribhoi, Nongkhnum, West Khasi Hills, Thadlaskien, West Jaintia Hills, and Pelgawari, South West Garo Hills. Additionally, numerous communities will have infrastructure and services for tourists that will cost between Rs. 5 and Rs. 10 crores each.
The Homestay Scheme has been introduced to further improve the housing infrastructure, and it calls for the construction of 2,500 housing units over the next five years in coordination with the PMEGP.
A five-star hotel in Shillong would help the government attract high-end travelers, and hold national and international sporting events, and other seminars and conferences due to the state’s lack of high-quality lodging.
He claimed that the Vivanta Meghalaya, Shillong would usher in a period of opulent travel to the State and significantly contribute to citizens’ aspirations.
