When The Kankor University Results Were Announced, There Were No Female Winners, Which Disappointed Netizens

Internet users expressed their unhappiness over the lack of a girl’s name on the list of the top 10 scorers after Afghanistan’s Kankor University revealed the results of its entrance exam on November 5.

Prior to the Taliban taking control of Afghanistan, girls frequently won the entrance exam, according to Khaama Press. However, when Kankor University revealed entrance exam results, the top 10 students were all-male.

Prior to the Taliban assuming control of Afghanistan, two outstanding Afghan girls, Shamsia Alizada and Selgai Baran placed first on the Kankor tests in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

On November 5, the National Examination Authority, which the Taliban control, announced the results of the Kankor exam 2022. According to the results that were made public, Suleiman, Mohammad Shabir, Hedayat, and Mohammad Zia obtained the first through tenth-best scores, respectively.

According to Khaama Press, Afghan users expressed their displeasure on social media about the exclusion of women from academic fields and specifically about the list of entrance exam winners that was released after the results were announced, along with a list that includes 10 of the top applicants from the 2022 entrance exam, all of whom are male.

A journalist by the name of Nilofar Langar commented on her Facebook page, “How can you expect girls to take exams with excitement and receive great grades when girls are excluded from classrooms for any reason?”

Despite the disappointment, Langar said, “do the mullahs let a girl come out on top and be an inspiration for the girls?” even if girls placed in the top 10.

Afghanistan has seen significant political unrest since the Taliban took control of the country on March 15, 2021, and the situation for women living there has been worse.

Hannah Neuman, a member of the European Parliament, previously denounced the rise in violence against women and girls in Afghanistan. She brought up a variety of difficulties that Afghan women confront, including incidences of child marriage, an increase in the trafficking of females, and violence against them.

Unacknowledged by the majority of the international community, the Taliban-led administration has vowed to disregard women’s rights and human rights, paying no attention to the rise in crimes and acts of violence against women since the takeover.
