Adoptive use of Heritage Structures can facilitate its sustainable conservation

Across India and around the world a large no.of heritage structures in the form of forts , palaces, homes of wealthy elites exist which are of significant importance as they reflect social – cultural -technological – architectural development of a particular time as well as evolving habitation surrounding these structures.
Bharat Chamber of Commerce & Bharat Chamber Ladies Forum organised a Panel session on ” Kolkata’ s Architecture Heritage and Sustainability ” on 22nd October 2024 . Two internationally acclaimed architects , urban planners & heritage conservationists – Mr. Partha Ranjan Das spoke on theme “Adaptive Reuse of Heritage Buildings” and Ms. Monica Khosla Bhargava spoke on theme “Recharging Kolkata’s Urhan Architecture
for Sustainable Growth”
Both suggested need for adoption of international best practices on conservation of buildings & structures as per UNESCO guidelines to preserve rich architectural heritage of the city of Kolkata which is continuously evolving.
Both suggested there is need for adoptive use of Heritage structures and buildings for proper & sustainable conservation.
