Yash Explains Decision to Skip Fan’s Funeral, Says He Wanted to Avoid Sending Wrong Message

Kannada superstar Yash has opened up about a difficult decision he made following the death of a fan in 2021, saying he chose not to attend the funeral because he did not want to create a precedent that could encourage others to take extreme steps in pursuit of attention or recognition.

The actor, who is currently preparing for the release of Toxic and his role as Ravana in the upcoming film Ramayana, spoke about the incident during a recent interaction. Recalling the tragedy, Yash said he was deeply saddened by the fan’s death and struggled emotionally after learning about it. However, he believed attending the funeral could unintentionally send the wrong message to admirers.

According to Yash, he feared that public attention surrounding such incidents might lead some individuals to believe that self-harm was a way to gain recognition from celebrities. While expressing sympathy for the bereaved family, he maintained that his presence at the funeral could have had unintended consequences and therefore chose to stay away.

The actor emphasized that he values the affection and support of his fans but wants them to celebrate their admiration in positive and constructive ways. He reiterated that no form of fandom should come at the cost of a person’s life and urged people to prioritize their well-being and that of their families.

Yash has previously spoken against dangerous displays of fandom. In earlier instances, he appealed to supporters not to engage in risky activities such as erecting large banners, chasing vehicles or taking hazardous selfies in an attempt to demonstrate their devotion. He has consistently urged fans to focus on personal growth, education and professional success rather than extreme acts carried out in the name of celebrity admiration.

His comments come as he continues work on major upcoming projects, including Toxic and the highly anticipated mythological epic Ramayana.
