India Issues RFI for New Jet Trainer Aircraft to Strengthen IAF Pilot Training

India has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for a new jet trainer aircraft aimed at modernising and strengthening the Indian Air Force’s pilot training pipeline. The proposed acquisition is expected to help meet the training requirements of future fighter pilots while improving the overall capacity and effectiveness of the IAF’s training system.

The move comes amid efforts to enhance India’s military aviation capabilities and build a modern, self-reliant defence ecosystem. A new-generation jet trainer could provide trainee pilots with advanced training before they transition to frontline fighter aircraft.

The initiative is also expected to create opportunities for greater domestic participation in defence manufacturing and support the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.
