PM Modi’s Schoolmate Gets Disputed Land Back After Meeting Prime Minister

An 81-year-old resident of Mira Road has regained possession of disputed land in Bhayander days after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seeking his intervention in the long-running property dispute.

Asgar Ali Vora, who studied with Modi at B N School in Vadnagar, Gujarat, met the Prime Minister on September 8. Vora had alleged that builders linked to BJP MLA Narendra Mehta had taken over his land in Bhayander East. Following the meeting, Mehta said he would relinquish possession of the disputed property and surrender the construction permission granted for the site.

Vora said he purchased around 2,810 square metres of land in Navghar, Bhayander East, through a registered agreement in 1989. According to him, he never sold or transferred the property. He alleged that documents were created in 2011 and that the plot was subsequently divided into two portions without his knowledge.

Vora had also alleged that one portion was linked to Swayam Builders, while the other was associated with Mehta’s Seven Eleven Constructions. He claimed that construction permission was granted for the disputed property despite his ownership claims. Vora had been pursuing the matter with government authorities for nearly 15 years and had sought a CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities.

After his meeting with Modi, senior Maharashtra government officials took up the matter. A meeting was held at Mantralaya under Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Shrikar Pardeshi. It was attended by Vora, Mehta, Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation Commissioner Radha Binod Sharma and Town Planner Purushottam Shinde.

During the meeting, Mehta submitted a letter to the town planning department stating that he was surrendering possession of the disputed land and the construction permission. He said the property had been purchased from Mervyn Fernandes in 2019.In a separate communication to the police commissioner, Mehta also said he was withdrawing his earlier complaint against Vora, stating that the two sides had reached a settlement.
