Historic “Hooghly Sankalp – MENU 2026” Riverine Sailing Expedition Flagged Off Grandly at Farakka

FARAKKA, WEST BENGAL — The much-anticipated multi-district riverine sailing expedition, “Hooghly Sankalp – MENU 2026,” from Farakka to Kolkata was officially flagged off with full fanfare and grandeur today from the Lockgate Jetty at Farakka.

Major General APS Chahal SM, Additional Director General of the West Bengal & Sikkim NCC Directorate, flagged off the sailing expedition of naval NCC cadets from the state of West Bengal and Sikkim at Farakka on 25 September. The momentous event witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests and civil-military dignitaries, alongside senior representatives from the district administration and partner agencies.

Addressing the gathering, Major General APS Chahal emphasized that the expedition is much more than a traditional sailing journey—it serves as a “floating classroom” wherein 60 selected cadets will master maritime skills, build character, and foster deep leadership and teamwork. Over the next 20 days, the young sailors comprising both boys and girls will cover a challenging riverine distance of 410 kilometers across the Hooghly river from Farakka to Kolkata, halting at seven key locations to execute community development and social outreach programs.

Marking a strong commitment to ecological sustainability during the flag-off phase, 150 plant saplings were successfully planted as part of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative. This impactful green drive was conducted in collaboration with Shri Sanjay Jaisingh, Founder of Mithri Mitti Trust, blending adventure with active environmental conservation.

Extending his warm wishes to the sailing team, the ADG commended the exceptional coordination and meticulous planning by the naval NCC units.

The flag-off of the expedition marks the beginning of an inspiring journey of youth empowerment, environmental stewardship, and national integration.
