Honor Life S3 Is a Compact E-Ink Reader That Magnetically Attaches to Your Phone

Honor has introduced the Life S3, a compact E Ink reader designed to provide a dedicated reading experience while attaching magnetically to the back of a smartphone. The device is aimed at users who want to read digital books without relying on their phone’s conventional display.

The Honor Life S3 features a 3.68-inch E Ink display with a resolution density of 259 pixels per inch. The screen uses a soft-light design intended to provide a more paper-like reading experience. At 61 grams and just 5.6mm thick, the reader is designed to remain lightweight and portable when carried separately or attached to a compatible smartphone.

The device is built around a magnetic attachment system that allows it to be placed on the rear of a phone. This makes it possible for users to carry the reader together with their smartphone without needing a separate bulky case or accessory.

Honor has equipped the Life S3 with several features aimed at extended reading. The company claims that the device can provide up to 30 hours of continuous reading and around a week of typical use on a charge. Its E Ink display also consumes significantly less power than conventional smartphone screens during static content viewing.

The reader supports touch controls, allowing users to turn pages directly on the display. It can also access a library of more than 700,000 books and supports wireless transfers through Honor’s Smart Space application. The device is compatible with multiple common e-book formats, giving users flexibility in managing their digital library. For users who require additional storage, the Life S3 includes support for a TF card with capacities of up to 1TB. This allows a large number of digital books and other supported files to be stored locally.

The Honor Life S3 has been launched in China at a price of 399 yuan, which is approximately $60. The company has not yet announced details about international availability. With its small E Ink display, magnetic design and focus on portability, the Life S3 represents an unusual approach to dedicated digital reading by turning a smartphone into part of a compact reading setup without requiring users to read directly from the phone’s brighter display.
