Punjab Drug Crisis Becomes Political Flashpoint Ahead of 2027 Polls

Chandigarh, September 25: Punjab’s drug crisis has emerged as a major political issue ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, with the AAP, Congress and BJP trading allegations over the state’s narcotics problem. The BJP has launched a statewide ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’, while AAP and Congress have criticised each other and questioned the Centre’s role in tackling drug trafficking. Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has criticised the AAP government over the drug menace and also questioned the timing and conduct of recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) searches in Punjab. The ED has said its operations are linked to a money-laundering investigation, while AAP leaders have alleged political pressure ahead of the elections
