Cricket coach drugged, sexually assaulted 12-year-old student in Kanpur: Police

According to police, a cricket coach reportedly drugged and sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl who was training in the sport under his guidance in the Panki region of Kanpur. The coach associated with a cricket academy is on the run.

The suspect, living in Gangaganj, reportedly enticed the minor to his neighborhood after training sessions and drugged her before assaulting her, a police official stated, noting that the suspect exploited her for two months until the girl revealed the situation to her mother, who subsequently reported it to the Panki police station. Furthermore, the accused is alleged to have blackmailed the girl with threats of social exclusion and used caste-based slurs to instill fear, as per the lodged complaint.

An FIR was filed against the suspect under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and various related provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), stated the additional deputy commissioner of police (Addl. DCP Vijyendra Dwivedi stated that the police are carrying out raids to locate him. This occurrence comes after a similar case in the Gujaini region, where a music teacher from a well-known school was charged with molesting a four-year-old student.
