From Devotion to Disaster: Yamuna Boat Tragedy Claims Lives in Vrindavan

A routine religious outing turned into a scene of horror in Uttar Pradesh’s Vrindavan when a boat carrying devotees capsized in the Yamuna River, leaving at least ten people dead and several others missing, officials confirmed. The victims, many of whom had travelled from Punjab, were on a pilgrimage to the holy town, known for its deep spiritual significance. The group had boarded a boat at Keshi Ghat for what was expected to be a calm journey across the river. Eyewitnesses said the passengers were engaged in singing devotional songs when the tragedy struck without warning.

Survivors described how the atmosphere shifted dramatically within moments. What began as a peaceful scene filled with bhajans quickly turned into chaos, as the boat suddenly lost balance and overturned. Panic spread instantly, with passengers struggling to stay afloat in the river’s currents.

Preliminary reports suggest that the boat may have collided with a floating structure, possibly a pontoon, leading to the accident. Authorities indicated that the vessel was carrying more passengers than its capacity, raising concerns about overcrowding and safety violations. The absence of basic safety measures, including life jackets, is also being cited as a major factor that worsened the outcome.
