Geological Survey of India celebrates 77th Republic Day with National Spirit and Patriotic Fervor at Central Headquarters, Kolkata

Kolkata, 26th January 2026: The Geological Survey of India (GSI) celebrated the 77th
Republic Day across all its offices with solemn pride and patriotic fervour. At the Central Headquarters, Kolkata, the National Flag was unfurled by Shri Asit Saha, Director General, GSI, in the august presence of Dr. Joydeep Guha, ADG & HoD, senior officers and staff members.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Asit Saha extended warm greetings to all officers and staff and called upon them to uphold the constitutional values of integrity, dedication and selfless service to the nation. He commended the unwavering commitment of GSI personnel in strengthening the country’s geoscientific foundation and contributing to key national priorities.

Highlighting GSI’s 175-year legacy, the Director General underscored the organisation’s pivotal role in mineral security, critical mineral exploration, clean energy transition and climate resilience. He emphasised that GSI remains firmly committed to accelerating exploration of critical and strategic minerals in line with the evolving needs and national priorities of the country. He encouraged officers and staff to embrace innovation, advanced technologies and data-driven approaches to meet emerging challenges in the geoscience sector.
Reiterating GSI’s enduring role as a pillar of scientific excellence and national service, Shri Saha emphasised alignment with the national goals of self-reliance, sustainability, and long-term development.
A plantation programme organised on the occasion symbolised GSI’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development. The celebrations concluded with a renewed resolve to uphold the ideals of the Constitution and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
