Ukraine will permit foreign arms manufacturers to trial their newest weapons on the front lines of its conflict against Russia’s invasion, according to Kyiv’s state-supported arms investment and procurement organization Brave1, announced on Thursday.
According to the “Test in Ukraine” initiative, businesses would deliver their products to Ukraine, provide online training on their usage, and then await feedback from Ukrainian forces after they test the products, the group mentioned in a statement.
“It gives us understanding of what technologies are available. It gives companies understanding of what is really working on the front line,” Artem Moroz, Brave1’s head of investor relations, told Reuters at a defence conference in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Moroz mentioned that there is considerable interest in the program but did not specify any companies that have committed to it and refrained from elaborating on its operation or what potential costs might be incurred.
Over three years since their incursion into Ukraine, Russian troops are conducting a relentless offensive along the extensive, over 1,000-km (620-mile) front line and escalating air attacks on Ukrainian urban areas. Ukraine is relying on a nascent defense sector, partially supported by international investment, to resist Russia’s larger and more heavily equipped military force.
Brave1, established by the government in 2023, features an online platform enabling Ukrainian defence firms to find investments and allowing Ukrainian military divisions to place orders for weapons, Moroz noted.
Additionally, unmanned systems for aquatic environments and electronic profile systems for terrestrial applications are prioritized by Ukraine, along with sophisticated fire control systems and AI-assisted guidance to enhance the precision of howitzers.
