News Mania Desk/ Sohom Chatterjee / 9th September 2024

In the early hours of Monday, September 9, the Indian Army successfully finished off two terrorists in Rajouri district’s Nowshera area after intelligence agencies and Jammu and Kashmir Police anticipated a potential infiltration attempt around the same location.

Through the search operation named ‘Operation Kanchi’, the Army also revealed that they were able to recover a large quantity of weapons. Carried out by the White Knight Corps unit of the Indian Army, while providing the information of the operation, they confirmed via their X handle, “Based on inputs from intelligence agencies and Jammu and Kashmir Police regarding a likely infiltration bid, an anti-infiltration Operation was launched by Indian Army on the intervening night of 08-09 Sep 24 in general area Lam, Nowshera.”

“Two terrorists have been neutralised and a large quantity of war like stores including Two AK-47s and one Pistol thus far recovered. Search operation is in progress.”

This incident happened just days prior to the upcoming J&K Assembly election that is happening after ten years which raises the question of whether the terrorists were infiltrating to disrupt the polls. The election is being conducted in three phases, the first phase is scheduled to be held on September 18, the second on September 28 and the last on October 1. The Rajouri polls will be held on September 25 during the second phase. All the votes will be counted on October 8.

This was not the first time the district of Rajouri has been under terrorist threat. Last month, on August 20, the Army were able to bust an underground terrorist hideout in the same region which was carried away jointly by J&K Police, Army and CRPF. They recovered a large amount of daily used essentials such as cooking gas, blankets and utensils.
