News Mania / Piyal Chatterjee / 8th October 2024

North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, stated on Tuesday that his nation will expedite its efforts to acquire nuclear weapons and would not rule out deploying them in the event of an enemy attack, according to state news agency KCNA. For the second time in a week, Kim specifically addressed South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol when criticizing Seoul for working with Washington to destabilize the area in order to hide the reality that Seoul lacks even adequate strategic weapons.

“Yoon Suk Yeol made some tasteless and vulgar comment about the end of the Republic in his speech, and it shows he is totally consumed by his blind faith in his master’s strength,” KCNA quoted Kim as saying, referring to the South’s alliance with the U.S.

“To be honest, we have absolutely no intention of attacking South Korea,” he said in the speech at the Kim Jong Un National Defense University, a training ground for elite military specialists.

“Every time I stated our position on the use of military force, I clearly and consistently used the qualification ‘if.’ If the enemies try to use force against our country, the Republic’s military will use all offensive power without hesitation. This does not preclude the use of nuclear weapons.”

“Our footsteps towards becoming a military superpower and a nuclear power will accelerate,” he added.

North Korea is thought to possess enough fissile material to construct dozens of nuclear warheads, and the country has been pursuing a nuclear weapons program for decades. It has carried out six tests of nuclear explosion underground.A U.S. strategic bomber flew overhead as part of a spectacular military parade held in honor of South Korea’s annual Armed Forces Day last week. The display featured a ballistic missile that was capable of carrying a hefty payload. In a briefing to a member of parliament, the South Korean Defense Ministry stated that intelligence signals suggested North Korea might be building a new submarine. Kim allegedly gave the order to build a nuclear submarine in January.

According to the story, the building was still in its early stages and it was unclear if the ship was a nuclear-powered submarine. According to the report, North Korea is also developing a submarine drone that may eventually be able to deliver nuclear bombs, maybe with Russian assistance.According to KCNA, Kim made his comments about being a “military superpower” on Monday, the same day that the North announced that its Supreme People’s Assembly will convene to talk about changing the nation’s constitution. Since Monday, the news agency has not reported on the discussions held by the assembly.

The possibility that the assembly may ratify a constitutional modification reflecting Kim’s declaration that the South is an independent nation and “a principal enemy” and that unification is no longer feasible makes it highly anticipated. A decision like this would formally mark Kim’s departure from the long-standing objective of national unification and endeavors to strengthen connections, which have been supported by both nations. In 2018, their leaders announced the end of war and the beginning of a new age of peace.

A other source cited KCNA as claiming that Kim gave Russian President Vladimir Putin a birthday card in which he referred to him as his “closest Comrade” and declared that “strategic and cooperative relations” between the two nations will reach a new height.
Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun of South Korea stated that “there was a high possibility” that North Korea would send troops to support Russia in its conflict with Ukraine.
Kim also confirmed to a parliament that news reports claiming North Korean military officers were slain in a Ukrainian strike in territories controlled by Russia were probably accurate.
