President Droupadi Murmu Welcomes The PRESIDENT OF INDONESIA

The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu welcomed H.E. Mr Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (January 25, 2025). She also organized a feast in his honor. Welcoming President Subianto during his inaugural State Visit to India, the President remarked that the civilisational connections between India and Indonesia date back thousands of years. She remarked that the principles of pluralism, inclusivity, and the rule of law are prevalent in both nations, and these common values have shaped our current relationship.
The President expressed gratitude to President Subianto for agreeing to honor our Republic Day celebrations as the Chief Guest. He highlighted that this is a momentous event, recalling that 75 years ago, on our inaugural Republic Day in 1950, President Sukarno of Indonesia was the Chief Guest. This illustrates the enduring connections and robust democratic heritage shared by our two nations.
The President also highlighted the ancient civilizational ties between India and Indonesia, such as the ‘Bali Jatra’ celebrated in Odisha, which honors the voyages of Indian sailors and traders from India to Bali and other areas of the Indo-Pacific in antiquity. The President remarked that today, our extensive emerging markets, close geography, and comparable economic frameworks present significant opportunities for boosting bilateral trade and investment.
The President further highlighted that defense and space collaboration are becoming significant components of our bilateral relations.
The President stated that Indonesia serves as a vital cornerstone of India’s ‘Act East’ strategy and Indo-Pacific Vision. He noted that as prominent representatives of the Global South, India and Indonesia collaborate closely across multiple multilateral forums, including the G-20 and through ASEAN. She also praised Indonesia for becoming a permanent member of BRICS. Both leaders agreed that as Comprehensive Strategic Partners, India and Indonesia are expanding cooperation in several new fields, which will be further strengthened by this visit.
