Buddhadeb Misra/ 21st April 2026

Today in Kolkata, Member of Parliament and former Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur and Rajya Sabha MP Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla addressed a press conference.

At the beginning of the press conference, State BJP Chief Spokesperson Shri Debjit Sarkar stated that over the past 15 years, this government has remained only a Trinamool government and has never become a government of the people of West Bengal. He said that this government is going on the 4th.

Thereafter, Shri Anurag Thakur delivered his address. He said that the Bengal election is Mamata vs Janata. And when the people take the election into their own hands, the verdict is also one-sided. He stated that the politics of appeasement, corruption, and nepotism practiced by the Trinamool over the past 15 years will reflect in the results of this election. He asserted strongly that on 4th May, the Trinamool government will go and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will step down, because the youth of Bengal have decided that Trinamool must be defeated. He said TMC stands for Terror, Money Laundering, and Cut Money, and also gave several new interpretations of the party’s name.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantee is that after winning the West Bengal elections, unemployed youth and women will receive ₹3000 per month. There will be 1 crore employment opportunities, a 5-year relaxation in job examinations, ₹15,000 assistance for preparation of competitive exams, and all vacant posts will be filled transparently. He also mentioned several other schemes for the youth. He said that Bengal’s youth will not only seek jobs but will also create jobs, and world-class sports training infrastructure will be developed.

While outlining BJP’s commitments for the youth of West Bengal, he also highlighted their current condition. He said that jobs have been looted, merit has been betrayed, and people are being forced to migrate for work. While the national unemployment rate is 5%, in the state it has reached 25%. Postgraduate unemployment is around 47.6%, and unemployment among diploma holders is 31.3%. There are 23 lakh registered job seekers. From 2015-16 till now, 30 lakh jobs have been lost in West Bengal, whereas 24 lakh new jobs have been created in Maharashtra. About 45.3% migrants have gone to Maharashtra in search of work and 34% to Delhi. He remarked that the slogan of the Mamata Banerjee government has effectively become “No Jobs.”

Thereafter, Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla spoke on North Bengal and various other issues. He said that today is the last day of election campaigning in North Bengal. Wherever Prime Minister Narendra Modi has campaigned, he has received overwhelming public support. Even at the Brigade rally, there was no space to accommodate the crowd. He stated that the people of Bengal are now ready to remove Trinamool and bring BJP to power.

After the press conference, Shri Anurag Thakur also shared a traditional meal of fish and rice with everyone.
