
News Mania Desk : On February 20, 2025, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) marked a significant milestone by returning to power in Delhi after 27 years. Rekha Gupta, a first-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Shalimar Bagh, was sworn in as the city’s fourth woman Chief Minister during a grand ceremony at the historic Ramlila Maidan. The event commenced at 10 AM, with Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena administering the oath of office.
The ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering of approximately 50,000 individuals, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, and Chief Ministers from various National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ruled states. The extensive attendance underscored the event’s importance and the party’s commitment to showcasing unity and strength.
In her inaugural address, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed gratitude to the party leadership and the citizens of Delhi for their trust. She emphasized her dedication to fulfilling Prime Minister Modi’s vision for the capital, focusing on development, women’s empowerment, and robust governance. Gupta, who has a rich history with the BJP and has served as the Delhi University Students’ Union president, highlighted her commitment to addressing the city’s pressing issues.
Alongside Chief Minister Gupta, six cabinet ministers were sworn in: Parvesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Pankaj Singh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, and Ravinder Indraj. Parvesh Verma, notable for defeating AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister. The cabinet’s composition reflects a blend of experienced leaders and fresh faces, aiming to bring dynamic governance to Delhi.
Security for the event was stringent, with over 25,000 police personnel, including paramilitary forces, deployed across central and northern Delhi. Advanced measures such as snipers on high-rise buildings and AI-based facial recognition systems were implemented to ensure the safety of attendees. The meticulous arrangements highlighted the administration’s commitment to maintaining order during significant public events.
The BJP’s decisive victory in the recent elections, securing 48 out of 70 seats, signifies a new chapter for Delhi’s governance. The newly formed government has pledged to prioritize policies that promote development, women’s welfare, and transparent administration, aiming to steer the capital towards a prosperous future.
