Mihir Shah, the 24-year-old son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, was apprehended by police on Tuesday, two days after allegedly causing a fatal hit-and-run incident in Mumbai. Shah, who had been evading authorities since Sunday morning, was captured in Virar, near Mumbai.

The incident occurred when Shah’s BMW collided with a two-wheeler in the Worli area, resulting in the death of 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa and injuries to her husband, Pradeep Nakhwa. Witnesses reported that Kaveri was dragged for 1.5 km before Shah stopped the vehicle, switched places with his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, and fled in another car.

Mihir Shah’s mother and two sisters were brought in for questioning from Shahapur in Thane district. The police, along with news agency PTI, reported that they were interrogated along with 10 others connected to the case.

After the crash, Shah abandoned his car and driver in Kala Nagar and fled in an auto rickshaw to a friend’s residence in suburban Goregaon. This friend then contacted Shah’s sister, who took Shah and his friend to her home in Borivali. The Shah family subsequently decided to escape to a resort in Shahapur, Thane district, traveling in an Audi. Shah’s mother Meena, sisters Kinjal and Pooja, and two friends accompanied him.

The Mumbai Police were able to track Shah after identifying one of his friends, who eventually turned on his mobile phone for 15 minutes, revealing their location. Shah was finally arrested late on Monday evening in Virar.

Authorities provided details on Shah’s movements prior to the accident. After a night out with friends at a bar in Juhu, Shah, along with his driver, headed to South Mumbai in the early hours. They were seen in the Marine Drive area around 4:30 am before the fatal collision occurred in Worli.

The collision in Worli led to a swift investigation by the Mumbai Police, who used mobile phone tracking to eventually locate Shah. Despite efforts by the Shah family to evade the police, they were unable to stay hidden for long. The police’s diligent tracking and the mistake of turning on the mobile phone led to Shah’s capture.

The court has charged Shah under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for forgery and using forged documents, reflecting the severity of the incident. This high-profile case underscores the consequences of reckless driving and the importance of swift justice. The police continue to interrogate the family and others involved to piece together the full extent of the events leading up to and following the accident.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of irresponsible driving and the impact it can have on innocent lives. The Mumbai Police’s effective use of technology in tracking down the accused highlights the advancements in law enforcement methods and their commitment to ensuring justice.
