Supreme Court of India Rebukes Mamata Banerjee Over Alleged Interference in ED Raid

News Mania Desk / 22nd April 2026

The Supreme Court of India has strongly criticised Mamata Banerjee for allegedly interfering in an ongoing raid conducted by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the I-PAC case. The court observed that such actions could undermine democratic institutions and due process.

During the hearing, the apex court reportedly remarked that interference by a constitutional authority in investigative proceedings sends a “wrong signal” and could place democracy “in peril.” The comments come amid heightened political tensions surrounding the investigation.

The case pertains to alleged financial irregularities linked to I-PAC (Indian Political Action Committee), with central agencies carrying out searches as part of the probe. The developments have triggered sharp political reactions, with opposition parties terming the investigations politically motivated, while others have raised concerns over adherence to legal norms.

The Supreme Court’s observations underscore the importance of maintaining institutional independence and ensuring that investigative agencies can function without external pressure or influence.
