Susie Wiles, one of Trump’s two campaign managers, will be his White House chief of staff, the president-elect announced Thursday, giving a high-level job to a political operative who assisted the Republican in winning the election. As Trump prepares to return to the White House on January 20, the appointment was the first in what is anticipated to be a barrage of employment announcements. The chief of staff usually has a lot of influence because they are the president’s gatekeeper. The individual coordinates the president’s time and schedule, oversees White House personnel, and keeps in touch with lawmakers and other government agencies.

The quiet 67-year-old Wiles will be the first female White House chief of staff. Trump said in a statement, “Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and universally admired and respected.” “She will undoubtedly make our nation proud,” Since defeating Democrat Kamala Harris in Tuesday’s election, Trump has remained secluded at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. According to four sources, he is considering a diverse group of individuals for high-level positions in his administration, many of whom are well-known during his 2017–2021 reign.

In contrast to his previous efforts, Wiles, a seasoned political strategist from Florida, and colleague campaign manager Chris LaCivita are credited with managing a more organized organization during Trump’s third presidential campaign. Early on Wednesday, Trump thanked them both in his victory speech. Trump remarked, “Susie likes to stay in the back, let me tell you,” as she got closer to the rear of the stage. “We call her the ice maiden.”

Wiles would give Trump stability and wise advice at the White House, according to interviews conducted Thursday by a number of people who have worked with her. During his 2017–2021 administration, Trump sacked an exceptionally high number of our chiefs of staff as they attempted to control the infamously unruly president.

“Susie is a strong woman and a true leader with a proven track record of getting things done,” said Republican strategist Ford O’Connell.

Wiles previously worked on the 1980 presidential campaign of Ronald Reagan and assisted in the election of Republican Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida in 2018. She was a key advisor to Trump’s campaigns in 2016 and 2020. Former House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California who is close to Trump and frequently visits Mar-a-Lago, was passed over for the position by Trump in favor of Wiles. According to sources, Brooke Rollins, the former acting head of Trump’s Domestic Policy Council, and McCarthy had also been considered.

According to a source familiar with the situation, New York Republican Representative Elise Stefanik, a staunch Trump supporter, is being considered for the position of U.S. ambassador to the UN. Under consideration for secretary of state is former U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, who served as acting intelligence head during Trump’s first term and accompanied him to New York when he recently met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. According to the sources, Republican Senator Bill Hagerty, a former American ambassador to Japan, is also being considered for that role.
