UP By-election Result 2022

Dimple Yadav, a candidate for the Samajwadi Party (SP), triumphed handily in the Mainpuri parliamentary byelection in Uttar Pradesh on December 8, 2022. In the by-election on December 5, she outperformed BJP candidate Raghuraj Singh Shakya by a margin of 2,88,461. Dimple, the wife of SP leader Akhilesh Yadav and the eldest daughter-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav, has been in the lead ever since voting began at 8 AM on December 8. She received 6,18,120 votes overall. In contrast, Shakya received 3,29,659 votes. The death of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav necessitated the Mainpuri by-election.

The BJP defeated the Samajwadi Party in the Rampur Sadar Assembly byelection, which is known as Azam Khan’s stronghold. After Akash Saxena, a candidate for the saffron party, defeated Asim Raja, a candidate for the SP, by a margin of 33,702 votes, the saffron party gained the Assembly seat for the first time.

After Azam Khan was found guilty of using hate speech and given a three-year prison sentence, he was forced to resign as an MLA, necessitating a by-election for the Rampur Sadar seat.

Madan Bhaiya of the SP-RLD alliance won the seat in the Khatauli Assembly by-election with a margin of 22,054 votes. He defeated Rajkumari Saini, a BJP candidate. Saini only managed 74,996 votes, compared to Madan’s 97,139.

Due to BJP MLA Vikram Singh Saini’s disqualification following his conviction on several charges, a by-election was required in Khatauli. After that, the BJP attempted to hold onto the seat by fielding Rajkumari Saini, Vikram Singh Saini’s wife.

Votes were also counted for assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh as well as by-elections in four other assembly constituencies: Padampur in Odisha, Sardarshahar in Rajasthan, Kurhani in Bihar, and Bhanupratappur in Chhattisgarh.
