Vedaa’s Slow Start: John Abraham’s Latest Film Struggles with Initial Box Office Figures
News Mania Desk/Agnibeena Ghosh/11th August 2024
John Abraham’s latest film, Vedaa, has made a subdued debut at the box office, garnering only Rs 8 lakh on its opening day. Following the success of Pathaan, which marked a significant comeback for Shah Rukh Khan, Abraham returns to his action roots in Vedaa. This new film, directed by Nikkhil Advani, sees Abraham sharing screen space with Sharvari, known for her role in Munjya, and Abhishek Banerjee.
Despite the buzz surrounding the film in recent weeks, Vedaa has faced several hurdles. The film’s journey has been marred by complications with the censor board. Initially, there were delays in receiving the certification, even though the film was submitted well ahead of the deadline. Additionally, over nine minutes of content were reportedly cut by the censors, adding to the film’s challenges.
The lackluster start at the box office has further compounded these issues. According to Sacnilk, Vedaa only managed to secure 1,400 shows for its first day and has sold approximately 2,900 tickets, translating to a modest earning of Rs 8.09 lakh. This underwhelming performance suggests that the film will need a significant turnaround to make a mark, especially with the Independence Day weekend approaching.
The upcoming long weekend is expected to be highly competitive, with Vedaa going head-to-head with two major releases: Stree 2, featuring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, and Khel Khel Mein, starring Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, and Taapsee Pannu. The intense competition could pose a substantial challenge for Vedaa as it strives to boost its earnings.
Vedaa revolves around a young woman, played by Sharvari, who confronts and defies a repressive system. John Abraham portrays a court-martialed army officer who trains her to combat her adversaries. The film’s storyline aims to blend action with a powerful narrative of resistance and empowerment.
Following her role in Vedaa, Sharvari is set to appear in Alpha, an upcoming film featuring Alia Bhatt, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor. This project is part of Aditya Chopra’s spy universe, further positioning Sharvari in a promising career trajectory.
As Vedaa navigates its initial challenges, the film’s performance in the coming days will be crucial in determining its overall success. With significant competition on the horizon and the need for a strong box office showing, the coming days will be pivotal for John Abraham and his latest cinematic venture.
