Shark Tank member from India Ashneer Grover remembered the incident in which he turned down Virat Kohli’s request to serve as a brand ambassador and chose to recruit 11 other players for a fraction of what Kohli would have demanded. He claimed to have told the legendary cricketer this tale, and Kohli was impressed with his sense of enterprise.
Ashneer claimed during an appearance on the Vagehra Vagehra podcast that he was also offered actor Anushka Sharma, Kohli’s wife, as part of the package while they were considering the arrangement. He didn’t like that, though.
Ashneer gave some background information before starting his story. As every square inch of the players’ jerseys is covered in advertisements, he offered that because he was in conversation with certain brokers about an IPL contract, he would like to place his on their behinds. Ashneer claimed that the broker advised him to hire Kohli as a workaround because the concept wasn’t taken seriously.
“Kohli requested a sum of money, which I won’t mention here for fear of offending him, he stated. I declined their bundle deal that included Anushka since I didn’t want to duplicate Manyavar’s actions. In order to obtain 11 additional players, I asked if they could do it for half of what Kohli was asking. And that is the agreement I ultimately reached.”
Ashneer claimed that he had actually told Kohli this tale once and that Kohli’s amused response. “I didn’t even participate in the photo shoots, thus I don’t have a single picture of any of them. I only have one picture of me lately speaking with Kohli. And I was sharing this tale with him. It was quite good business,” he claimed.
Ashneer didn’t return for the newly released second season, despite becoming a household brand as a result of the success of Shark Tank India season one. He claimed that after dominating the first season of the show, it is time for him to level up and compared himself to Kohli playing for a small team.
