The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK), a specialised wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, conducted simultaneous search operations across multiple locations in the Kashmir Valley on Saturday as part of an ongoing investigation into a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The raids were carried out under judicially sanctioned search warrants in connection with FIR No. 07/2023.
According to officials, the case has been registered under Sections 153-A, 505 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 13, 18, 18-B and 39 of the UAPA. Authorities said the searches were aimed at collecting evidence, identifying links between suspects and furthering the investigation into activities that could have implications for national security.
Search teams fanned out across different districts of the Valley, including Srinagar, Ganderbal and Anantnag. One team searched the residence of Riyaz Ahmad Beigh at Hokarsar in Srinagar. Another operation was conducted at the residence of Syed Qalandar Shah in Chountwaliwar in the Lar area of Ganderbal district. Officials also searched the residence of Gulzar Ahmad Rather, an imam at Phali Masjid and a resident of Nowgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
During the searches, investigators seized several documents, electronic gadgets and digital storage devices believed to contain material relevant to the case. Officials said the recovered items would be subjected to forensic and technical examination to determine their evidentiary value and establish whether they contain information linked to the offences under investigation.
The CIK stated that the raids were conducted strictly in accordance with legal procedures after obtaining the necessary permissions from the competent court. Officials maintained that the operations form part of a broader effort to uncover the full extent of the alleged unlawful activities and identify individuals or networks that may have violated provisions of the UAPA. Authorities said the investigation remains active and additional action may follow based on the analysis of the seized material. The CIK reiterated its commitment to pursuing the case through lawful procedures while ensuring that all evidence is examined thoroughly as the probe progresses.
