In a recent Lok Sabha session, Samajwadi Party chief and Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav sharply criticized the BJP-led NDA government for their electoral defeat in the Faizabad (Ayodhya) constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Yadav highlighted the victory in Ayodhya as a testament to the democratic wisdom of Indian voters.

The SP leader’s criticism focused on the BJP’s confidence in securing Ayodhya, a seat they deemed secure due to the recent Ram Mandir inauguration. In his parliamentary speech, Yadav cited a Doha from Ramcharitmanas by Goswami Tulsidas—’Hoye wahi jo Ram rachirakha’—emphasizing that the outcome was preordained, indirectly suggesting BJP’s overconfidence was misplaced.

Throughout his address in the Lok Sabha, Yadav employed poetic barbs to underscore his points. He stated, “Hum Ayodhya se laaye hain unke prem ka paigam, jo sachchemann se karte hain sabkakalyan, sadiyon se jan-jangaata hai jinkegaan…Maanavta ke liyeuthnajinka teer kamaan, jo asatya par bhisatya ki jeet ka hai naam. Ufantenadi par jo badhemaryada ke baan, woh hain Awadh ke raja Purushottam, Prabhu Ram! Hum Ayodhya se laaye hain unke prem ka paigam.” This poetic message from Ayodhya underscored the ideals of humanity and truth, contrasting them with BJP’s recent political failures.

Yadav also taunted the BJP’s earlier claims of winning 400 seats, saying, “Aawam ne tod diyahukumat ka guroor, darbar to laga par badagamginbenoor hai sab.” This was a pointed remark about the BJP’s dashed hopes and the somber mood despite their initial confidence.

In addition to his poetic jibes, Yadav brought up the controversial issue of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). He asserted, “EVMs have to go; SP will keep pressing for it. Even if I win 80 out of 80 seats of UP then also I will not trust EVM. EVM issue will never die.” This statement highlighted the SP’s ongoing mistrust in the electronic voting process, insinuating potential manipulation and calling for a return to more transparent voting methods.

Yadav didn’t stop at the electoral process. He accused the government of intentionally causing paper leaks to deny employment opportunities to the youth, further criticizing the systemic issues under the current administration.

Moreover, Yadav took a swipe at BJP’s lack of a clear majority, “Ye hai uskafaislajiskilaathi me nahi hai aawaz, jo karte the kisi ki laane ka daava, wo khud hai kisi ke sahaare ko laachar. Huzure-e-aalaaajtakkhamoshbaithe hai isigham me, mahfil loot le gaya koi, jabkisajayihamne.” This reflected on the BJP’s reliance on external support despite their strong claims, pointing out their vulnerability and the electorate’s decisive stance.

Finally, Yadav criticized the NDA government for the lack of development in Varanasi, a village adopted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Despite promises of urban-level development, Yadav alleged that the village remained underdeveloped, with broken roads and a lack of basic amenities, contradicting the government’s claims of progress.

Akhilesh Yadav’s speech in the Lok Sabha was a blend of criticism, poetic expression, and pointed allegations, aimed at highlighting the perceived shortcomings of the BJP-led government, particularly in the context of their defeat in Ayodhya and broader governance issues.
