Indian Paralympic badminton star Pramod Bhagat has been handed an 18-month suspension from the sport due to a breach of anti-doping regulations, a decision that will prevent him from participating in the Paris Paralympics 2024. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) officially confirmed this sanction on August 13, 2024.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) Anti-Doping Division had earlier determined that Bhagat violated the BWF’s anti-doping rules by failing to comply with whereabouts regulations on three separate occasions within a 12-month period. These failures are considered significant breaches under the anti-doping framework, which requires athletes to be available for testing and to provide accurate location information.
Bhagat, who competes in the SL3 category, challenged the decision through an appeal to the CAS Appeals Division. However, his appeal was unsuccessful, with the CAS Appeals Division upholding the original verdict on July 29, 2024.
